FUNCTION ALMOST AS ETERNALLY, NOW NOT YOUR LIGHT, SUN SOUNDS, FOR YOU WE ALL, DRUGS SWEETS AND GREASE, a solo exhibition at Sala Antena, a space as incubator and source of dialogue emitted through workshops, seminars, sound studies, and gatherings in Mexico City. The Sala is a result of Rodrigo Espinosa and artist Arturo Hernandez meeting up again at a party and discussing ways for them to collaborate. The solo exhibition was a spatial intervention that limited ease of access with ignoring a linear chronological installation of paintings. Instead the work’s were advantageously overlaid atop the architecture; becoming a kind of skin within ongoing activities at Sala Antena for the three-month duration. I pulled from a wide range of completed paintings using only black and white that explore the expansive quality in the absence of color(s). Rather than feeling limited, my approach was grounded with a sense that color was excessive or secondary to the visual communication therefore not necessary.
